The Film/TV Audition Event
This full-day workshop and seminar is designed to provide actors with new tools and insights into the audition process, presented by both established working actors and casting directors, and grounded in common-sense, logic, provable realities, practicable techniques, and professional experience.
The day will begin with Audition Psych 101, a workshop presented by NYC-based actor Michael Kostroff (The Wire, The Good Wife, Luke Cage). Michael will deconstruct the ideas that make actors feel scared, nervous, insecure, discouraged, and unworthy, explore some of those strange, illogical actor mythologies, and consider fresh ideas and practical techniques for making auditions much more enjoyable and successful.
The day will continue with talks by casting directors Tiffany Mak (Before I Fall, Monkey Up, The Girl in The Photographs) and Stuart Aikins (Unforgiven, Elf, Cool Runnings), who will each discuss the audition process as viewed from the other side of the table, offering their unique perspectives as to what actors do right and what they do wrong. Each talk will be followed by a Q&A session with the respective casting director.
The day will end with an actors panel discussion moderated by Lori Triolo (Cold Squad, The 4400) and featuring Kandyse McClure (Hemlock Grove, Battlestar Galactica), Lexa Doig (Arrow, The Arrangement), Omari Newton (Tarzan and Jane, Continuum) and JR Bourne (Somewhere Between, Teen Wolf). These established working actors will discuss the audition process, share some of their experiences, the things they’ve learned along the way, talk about how they now approach auditions, and answer audience questions.
