The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh

With echoes of Tarantino, Stephen King, and the Brothers Grimm, The Pillowman by award winning playwright, screenwriter and director Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths) centres on a writer in an unnamed totalitarian state who is being interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a series of child murders. The result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art. The Pillowman is a winner of two Tony Awards, a New York Theatre Critic’s Circle award, and an Olivier Award for Best New Play.

Energizing… a blindingly bright black comedy… an unsettling and exhilarating play. – The New York Times

McDonagh is a dangerously prodigious master of theatrical form… The Pillowman is thoroughly startling and genuinely intimidating. – Chicago Tribune
