Welcome back to the weekly round up of stuff happening IRL in YVR. We’ve gathered up the best events in Vancouver this week when it comes to plays and the playful and give you things worth Instagramming about.
CBC Free Lunch Concerts feat. Desiree Dawson, Khari Wendell McClelland, and Kutapira – July 20, 21, 22, noon
CBC Vancouver Outdoor Stage
Details: We couldn’t pick just one to share after checking out the second half of this week’s line up. Lucky for us (and you) these concerts are totally free so you don’t have to. Desiree and Khari’s performances promise to be deep and soulful and Kutapira will give you a lively Friday pick me up.
Perfect for: Picnics with co-workers and doing something different over lunch.
One Year Anniversary Party – Friday July 22, 6:30 – 9:30 pm
Details: This bootcamp hub for digital professionals is more than just a bunch of people glued to their laptops. This place knows how to throw a party. BrainStation hosts monthly art parties, events, meet ups, lunch and learns, and this Friday will be hosting a party in their Yaletown studio to celebrate one big year.
Perfect for: If you haven’t checked out an event here, now might be a good time. They have a good mix of learners and educators from some of the coolest companies in Vancouver so you’ll be amongst people who get sh*t done and know how to celebrate.
Teenaged Dirt Bag – Saturday July 23, 8 pm
Hot Art Wet City
Details: re-live your derelict teen years (or perhaps enjoy its relative tameness) as you hear from three comedians who really relish in the follies of their youth.
Pairs well with: re-connecting with an old friend so you can laugh at your own youthful transgressions over a beer afterwards.
Orpheum Tours – Saturday July 23, 11 am
Details: Grab some refuge from another rainy or muggy day by hopping on this tour of Vancouver’s historic Orpheum theatre. If you haven’t been to an event at the Orpheum this is your chance to bask in the historic building’s grandeur.
Bonus: Coffee. Quiet. An excuse to kick any of last night’s visitors out of your house because you have somewhere to be…
Vancouver Instant Theatre: Street Fight – Sunday July 24, 7:30 pm
Details: Another Sunday, another round of a battle royale of 10 local improvisers vying for your laughter. Watch these pros bring their A game while you linger in the last few moments of the two-day holiday known as the weekend.
Perfect for: your last good belly laugh as you wrap up a solid break from normal life.
